SGM William L. Lubbers

Sergeant Major William L. Lubbers, Green Beret Special Forces Ranger Airborne
Willie was a great husband and father, and an active participant in Lightning veteran and son Zach Lubber’s life, and a great friend of many Carolina Lightning Hockey families.
Sergeant Major Lubbers had over 24 years of military service and over 100 combat missions in hostile countries such as Pakistan, Iraq and Afghanistan. He was a highly decorated war veteran; medals included the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. He was posthumously awarded the Legion of Merit.
Sergeant Major Willie Lubbers was killed November 15, 2012 during Veterans Day Parade in Midland, Texas.
The mission and purpose of The Willie Lubbers Memorial Scholarship Fund is the following:
To honor an American hero, a great husband, father, and friend,
To support and promote our youth, and Carolina Lightning Hockey’s principles of being about and for the “kids” and them having fun,
To support and promote educational excellence and Carolina Lightning Hockey’s principles of good school grades,
In memory of Willie, the Lightning Organization accept financial donations to help our kids. This fund will be used to assist youth hockey players and their families within the Carolina Lightning Hockey organization who are in need of financial assistance, and who otherwise would not be able to participate. Monies will go towards a player’s season program costs only.
